Bella Bigsby

Originally from Norfolk, England, Bella Bigsby has lived in Northern California for several years. A self-taught artist, Bella works primarily in oils, but also uses inks, watercolor, and acrylics. Her work is an exploration of natural forms and structures.

Artist Statement

'It is now an ocean away, but the bleak yet beautiful landscape I left behind still inspires much of my work. I frequently return to Norfolk and I feel that this renews my connection to the land. Yet it also exists within me. It has become an internal landscape.

Along with a desire to examine and record the detail of my subjects I also want to capture the sense of mystery and emotion they evoke. For me, nature is a separate yet parallel world, with its own language in its shapes, patterns and nuances. My paintings are an attempt to listen to this language.'
