Kurt Meer seems to enjoy blurring the edges of our perception. In doing so, he explains that he is ìmeeting the viewer half-way.î His brushwork demonstrates this conviction. The surfaces of his paintings, whether they are the suggestion of trees and hills or sea and sand, are luminous and gleam under a reflective gloss. It is not an accident that we can see our reflection on the shiny surfaces. Meer wants the viewer ìto impress something personal upon the paintingsî and perhaps seeing the faintest glimmer of ourselves imparts this notion on a subconscious level.
