Artwork for Cary Reeder

Cary Reeder, a Miami, Florida native, has made Houston, Texas her home since 1998. She worked for more than a decade as a graphic artist and typesetter in the early 80s and received her fine art training at the Glassell School of Art, Museum of Fine Arts-Houston from 2006-2013. In between her stint as a graphic artist and returning to art school, she had a 20+ year career as a grant writer and fundraiser for nonprofit organizations. Her work has been included in numerous local, regional, and national juried exhibitions, and solo shows at Lawndale Art Center (2013) and the Optical Project (2016). She is a past recipient of an Individual Artist Grant from the Houston Arts Alliance and has twice been featured in New American Paintings. She teaches at Art League Houston and the Glassell School of Art.

The Neighborhood Series, an on-going series, was inspired by changes in her rapidly gentrifying neighborhood near downtown Houston. It explores the themes of loss and the secrets of home life that are hidden behind drawn blinds and closed doors. Underlying her work is a desire is to create a mood and atmosphere and a somewhat open slate that leaves the viewer curious and questioning, compelling them to fill in the missing details.

Cary joined Grand Image in 2017.
