Artwork for Kathleen McCarty

Kathleen McCarty was born and raised in Wisconsin. She studied art at the Art Institute of Chicago and in Florence, Italy. After receiving her BFA she settled in Washington state where she currently lives and works in the former home and studio of the late Northwest artist Richard Gilkey. Surrounded by a river slough and Skagit Valley farmland, her creativity is fed by this connection to the landscape as well as by modern design, good food and salsa dancing. Kathleen has shown her work throughout northwest Washington.

'I strive to make joyous, uplifting paintings that vibrate with energy. My current work is a series of acrylic paintings on 5'x4' canvases. Their large scale is integral to attaining the sense of movement, color and overall effect that I aim for. Always in the forefront of my mind is the question: How simple can I make this and still convey its essence?' Kathleen McCarty

Kathleen joined Grand Image in 2009.
