Artwork for Stephen Henning

Stephen Henning, once an award-winning graphic designer and creative director, transitioned to painting full-time in the early 1990s, developing a distinctive style of American impressionism. His work, celebrated for its portrayal of untamed landscapes, reflects his deep love for nature- a passion nurtured by his mentor, Ernest Oberholzer, co-founder of the Wilderness Society. Henning's paintings, which include vast Midwestern landscapes and impressionistic still lifes, are featured in private, corporate, and public collections across North America.

Henning often begins his landscapes en plein air, capturing the essence of the natural world before completing larger canvases in his studio. He is also dedicated to arts education, serving as artist-in-residence in rural schools and teaching outdoor painting workshops throughout the Midwest. A strong advocate for the arts, Henning holds positions on several arts organization boards. Born in Minot, North Dakota, and raised in Anoka, Minnesota, he now resides near Inspiration Peak, Minnesota, sharing studio space with his wife and fellow artist, Jacqueline.

Stephen joined Grand Image in 2006.
