Artwork for Sallie K. Smith

I have been drawing ever since I can remember, and the smell of oil paint and turpentine are among my earliest memories. My artist mom encouraged me to look at things differently. An often-asked question was, "What colors do you see?" It is not surprising then that I use color to communicate energy, light, and beauty. I use rich color without apologyĂ–it is what I see and working with it gives me great pleasure. The beautiful scenery of the Rocky Mountain West is the subject matter of my work. My ability to produce art is a wonderful gift, the process a special way to experience life, and sharing it with others a privilege.
