Artwork for David Owen Hastings

David Owen Hastings was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa, where he grew up with creative siblings and parents who valued artistic expression. David studied graphic design at the University of Iowa before moving to Seattle in 1985, where he currently own a graphic design and fine art studio. David studied printmaking at the Pratt Fine Arts Center and Sev Shoon with artists Eva Isaksen, Ken Parker, Deborah Mersky, Barbara Robertson, Dionne Haroutunian, and Kamla Kakaria. He is a member of Seattle Print Arts, Artists Trust.

Monotype printing allows the artist to create spontaneous images and source material that he often takes further with collage. A monotype is a painting on an un-etched printing surface that is transferred to paper by hand or by a press. Color is a very important factor in his work, and he strives for richness and depth, which is why he loves collaging printed pieces with handmade papers, fabrics, bits of text, and translucent materials such as ribbon and vellum.

David Owen joined Grand Image in 2006.
