Artwork for Nyoman Sudarsa

Nyoman Sudarsa was born on the island of Bali in Indonesia. He was formally trained at the National Academy in Den Pasar where he focused on art and architecture. During his studies, Sudarsa developed a style of painting that combined the exacting detail of traditional Balinese painting with Western themes and motifs. Similar to illustration, his compositions are fully drawn and shadowed before color is applied. Acrylics thinned to a watercolor transparency are then added in multiple applications to achieve the desired shading. Highlights in gouache are added last and give his work unique dimension.

Sudarsa’s subject matter is drawn from the flora and fauna of his native Bali, where each living thing is filled with spirit.

The artist has exhibited is work in group shows in Bali, Jakarta, Singapore and Sydney, Australia.

In addition to art, Sudarsa is a master of the mask dance known in Bali as "Topeng". He has appeared on television and has toured abroad with a Balinese dance troupe.

Nyoman joined Grand Image in 2006.
