Born in 1956 in Wadowice, Poland, Marysia Burr began her artistic journey at the Bielsko-Biala High School of Fine Arts and later earned a master's degree from the Polish Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Her early work was influenced by prominent Polish artists Henryk Stazewski and Eugeniusz Markowski, as well as the bold style of Abstract Expressionist Willem de Kooning. After emigrating to the United States in 1981, Marysia transitioned from realistic portrayals of the human form to exploring the interplay of realism and abstraction in landscapes and nature forms.
