Hand sketching and wall writing

I read an interesting post featured on Freshome a while back with some ideas on how to bring letters into your home. Hand sketching and wall writing will be more and more popular this year, as graphic artists will start collaborating with interior designers in creating original wall imprints. Imagine your favorite message elegantly written in the hallway or various letters adorning the ceiling. Here is a nice example below: Idea in the space
At the beginning of 2012 my now husband and I moved back to our hometown, a dream that we thought wouldn’t be possible for years to come. I was elated about this new phase of life, we were getting married in the fall, we just got our first puppy and I was buzzing around fixing up our new home and filling it with furnishings. Art was definitely high on the list.
I chose a print by artist Amy Smith, titled “Happy” – a close up photograph of the definition of the word, listing various synonyms. I loved the graphic abstracted nature of the piece, the modern black and white contrast and soft gritty nature of the printed text. More importantly, each and every time I stop to admire it, I read the words and it takes me back to how I felt when I purchased it and reminds me of all those things that make me happy still. It has become a literal daily reminder and sets the tone for our household so that everyone sees, “this is a happy place.”
What do you want your room to say? Make a visual impact and communicate a mood with just one word or a simple phrase. Check out all of the cool text related imagery by artist Amy Smith and create a statement with your artwork.
